Careem in Egypt: The Local Alternative to Uber

Careem is the Middle East's homegrown ride-hailing app (now owned by Uber but operating independently). It's often the tourist's better option in Egypt because it has stronger local driver relationships and offers services Uber doesn't.

Coverage

Careem operates in Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor, Aswan, Mansoura and several smaller cities. In some Upper Egypt cities Careem is available where Uber isn't.

• Careem Pink — female drivers only, for female passengers or families.
• Careem BUS — cheap shared bus routes in Cairo.
• Careem Now — food delivery from local restaurants.

Payment & pricing

Prices are comparable to Uber, sometimes slightly cheaper. Card or cash accepted. Tipping in-app is optional. Install the Careem app before your trip and use both apps on arrival — you'll get better availability.
