Best Time to Visit Egypt: Month-by-Month Weather Guide

Egypt is a year-round destination but the experience differs sharply by season. In short: October to April is best for sightseeing; May to September is best for the Red Sea (if you can handle heat); July and August are brutal in Upper Egypt.

October to April (peak sightseeing)

Mild days (20–28°C), cool evenings and clear skies. Perfect for Cairo, the Pyramids, Luxor and Aswan. Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks — book everything early. February half-term and Easter also see crowds.

May and September (shoulder)

Warm to hot (28–36°C) but manageable with early starts and midday breaks. Fewer crowds, better prices. September is excellent for diving — warm water, calm sea.

June to August (peak Red Sea, brutal Upper Egypt)

Cairo hits 38°C, Luxor and Aswan touch 45°C. Sightseeing is exhausting. The Red Sea, however, is at its warmest for diving and swimming. If you must go inland in summer, plan around 6am starts and afternoon pool time.
