Hurghada International Airport (HRG) Guide for Tourists
How to breeze through Hurghada International Airport and reach your Red Sea resort quickly.

Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is Egypt's second-busiest airport and the main gateway to the Red Sea resorts. It's compact, modern and used almost exclusively by holidaymakers arriving on package tours or independent Red Sea trips.
Arrival & visa
Most European nationalities need a $30 USD visa on arrival — buy it from the bank counter before joining immigration. If you're on a package tour with a Red Sea-only itinerary (max 14 days, Sinai or Hurghada region), some nationalities qualify for a free Sinai-only permit; ask your tour operator.
Getting to your hotel
- Hotel shuttle — most package tours include one; look for your rep after customs.
- Taxi — negotiate before getting in; ~200 EGP to central Hurghada, ~400 EGP to El Gouna, ~350 EGP to Makadi Bay.
- Uber is available in Hurghada but coverage from the airport is limited.
Wi-Fi & eSIM
Airport Wi-Fi is free but slow. Install your Egypt eSIM before flying so you can message the hotel, translate, and load a map the moment you land.
Airport layout
HRG has two terminals — Terminal 1 (older, mainly charter) and Terminal 2 (newer, scheduled airlines). Both have duty-free, cafés and ATMs. Check your boarding pass for the correct terminal.
