Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH) is the Sinai's main international gateway, serving the Red Sea resorts of Naama Bay, Sharks Bay, Nabq and Ras Mohammed. It's a short, well-organised airport used mostly by charter and package flights.
Visa on arrival
Official Experience Egypt guidance describes a free entry stamp for eligible travelers arriving directly in Sharm El Sheikh, Nuweiba or Taba for stays of up to 15 days in South Sinai, including Dahab. It does not cover Hurghada or mainland trips. A visa is needed for a longer stay or travel beyond the permitted area; confirm nationality eligibility and your itinerary through the official Egyptian e-Visa portal or Egyptian consulate. Check the required permission before excursions to St Catherine's or other destinations beyond the permitted area; a guided tour does not automatically remove visa requirements.
Getting to your resort
- Hotel shuttle — always the easiest with luggage; usually pre-arranged.
- Taxi — agree the fare before you set off; prices changed during 2026, so confirm the amount rather than relying on older figures.
- Ride-hailing — Sharm El Sheikh is not listed on Uber's published Egypt city page. Check availability in other apps for your exact pickup; inDrive lists the city, but airport fees and tolls are paid separately.
Staying online
Free airport Wi-Fi is available but limited and slow. Install your Egypt eSIM before you fly so you can contact your hotel, load Google Maps, and translate signs from the second you land.
Tips before landing
- The airport is 15–20 minutes from Naama Bay in normal traffic.
- Duty-free is well-stocked; alcohol allowance is 3 litres on arrival.
- If you need a bank-counter visa on arrival, carry US dollars in cash as a fallback and confirm current fees and eligibility before travel.
