Uber offers app-based ride booking in listed Egyptian cities. Check the fare and payment methods shown for your route, verify the driver and vehicle before boarding, and keep mobile data available for trip updates. No ride-hailing app is always the safest or best option.

Where Uber operates

As checked on 25 October 2026, Uber's official Egypt city page lists Alexandria, Cairo, Damietta, Hurghada, Mansoura, Canal Cities, Tanta and Zagazig. Luxor, Aswan and Sharm El Sheikh are not listed on that page. A city listing does not guarantee a ride at every pickup point: check the app for your exact location and arrange a backup transfer if needed.

Prices vs regular taxis

The app shows the fare before you accept the ride, which removes the negotiation that comes with a street taxi. Prices rise at peak hours, in bad weather and during big events. Fuel and transport costs moved several times in 2026, so treat any fare you read online as a rough guide and rely on the price quoted in the app.

Payment

You can pay by card (added in the app) or with cash. Cash is popular in Egypt and drivers are used to making change. Tips are appreciated but not expected.

inDrive: proposing your own fare

inDrive is another ride-hailing app used in Egypt, and it works differently from Uber and Careem. Instead of the app setting the price, you enter your pickup and destination, propose the fare you want to pay, and nearby drivers either accept it or send a counter-offer. You then choose an offer based on price, rating and vehicle. According to inDrive, the service runs in around 30 Egyptian cities, including Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor, Aswan, Mansoura, Damietta and Ismailia.

• Tolls and airport fees are not included in the fare you agree and are paid by the passenger.
• Check the driver's name, photo, car and license plate against the app before getting in.
• A driver may ask for extra only in specific cases, such as a route change or a long wait you requested.
