Borg El Arab Airport (HBE) is Alexandria's main international airport, located about 45 km southwest of the city. It's smaller and quieter than Cairo, with most flights arriving from Gulf countries, Turkey and select European hubs.

Arrival process

Immigration is usually quick — 15–20 minutes. Visa on arrival (US$30, cash) is sold at the bank counter before immigration. Baggage claim is fast because most flights are small aircraft.

• Uber — Alexandria is on Uber's Egypt city list, though drivers are fewer than in Cairo.

• Airport shuttle bus — operates on select flight arrivals into central Alexandria; check the current fare at the desk.
• Pre-booked hotel car — most expensive but the easiest with families.
