Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is Egypt's second-busiest airport and the main gateway to the Red Sea resorts. It's compact, modern and used almost exclusively by holidaymakers arriving on package tours or independent Red Sea trips.

Arrival & visa

Most European nationalities need a visa on arrival — US$30 in cash, bought at the bank counter before joining immigration. If you're on a package tour with a Red Sea-only itinerary (max 14 days, Sinai or Hurghada region), some nationalities qualify for a free Sinai-only permit; ask your tour operator.

Getting to your hotel

  • Hotel shuttle — most package tours include one; look for your rep after customs.
  • Taxi — agree the fare before you get in; prices moved during 2026, so confirm the amount rather than relying on older figures.
  • Uber lists Hurghada among its Egyptian cities, but availability at the airport itself can be limited.
  • inDrive also lists Hurghada; you propose a fare and drivers accept or counter-offer, with airport fees and tolls paid separately.

Wi-Fi & eSIM

Airport Wi-Fi is free but slow. Install your Egypt eSIM before flying so you can message the hotel, translate, and load a map the moment you land.

Airport layout

HRG has two terminals — Terminal 1 (older, mainly charter) and Terminal 2 (newer, scheduled airlines). Both have duty-free, cafés and ATMs. Check your boarding pass for the correct terminal.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa when flying into Hurghada?
Most tourists need a visa on arrival — US$30 in cash at the airport bank counter, the official rate since 1 March 2026. Confirm the current amount at visa2egypt.gov.eg before you fly.
How long is the transfer from Hurghada Airport to El Gouna?
About 30–40 minutes by taxi or shuttle.
Is Uber available at Hurghada Airport?
Uber lists Hurghada as a city it serves, but pickups at the airport are not always available. Have a hotel transfer or a taxi fare agreed as a backup.
